Over 250 people assembled inside of the Intercontinental Hotel, mingling through a sea of startup ecosystem stakeholders with floor-to-ceiling windows framing the Atlantic Ocean as their backdrop. Amidst them, 16 women CEOs took their places at the front of the room, eager to share their startups’ success with those who came to celebrate alongside them at the Miami WIN Lab Finale that night.
After 5 months, hundreds of hours with mentors and coaches, and countless steps taken towards their goals, each of these entrepreneurs in the Women Innovating Now (WIN) Lab accelerator grabbed the mic to pitch the ventures that they have worked so diligently to build. From gamifying your walk around town to fighting fraud through return technology, these are the female founders creating impact in the Miami ecosystem today.
While each of the entrepreneurs presented their startups to a packed house that night, three were asked to pitch for a share of $8,500 in cash prizes, supplied by FedEx. Chosen from the group of sixteen based on the traction they generated in the accelerator, the finalists included Koki, Apple Playa, and ARVISL. Each venture and its corresponding founders had five minutes to present their companies to an esteemed panel of judges including Matt Haggman, Former Director of the Knight Foundation; Juan Pablo Cappello, Co-Founder of LAB, Miami Angels and PAG Law; and Monica Simo Black, Fund Partner at The Venture City.
The three entrepreneurs each walked away with a check to utilize in the continued growth of their companies. First place and $5,000 went to Koki, a service providing personal chefs who can create meals right in your home. Second place and $2,500 went to Apple Playa, a company creating apple-cinnamon liqueur meant to be shared, mindfully. And in third place with a check of $1,000 was ARVISL, a startup making cities more fun to live in through the use of augmented and virtual reality.
